Basketball Recap: Elisabeth Byington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Volunteer over West Ridge

Volunteer lost against West Ridge back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Volunteer Falcons took a hard 63-49 fall against the West Ridge Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Wolves are ranked 66th).

Volunteer lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Elisabeth Byington, who went 7 for 9 on her way to 16 points and six boards. That's the most points Byington has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Mailloux, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Volunteer and nudges their season record down to 12-13. As for West Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Volunteer has already played their next match (against Unicoi County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. West Ridge will face off against David Crockett at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. David Crockett will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something West Ridge surely won't give up without a fight.
