Winchester Community is 8-1 against Muncie Burris since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Golden Falcons will venture away from home to square off against the Owls at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Winchester Community has nine straight victories, Muncie Burris has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Winchester Community got the win against Tri by a conclusive 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Golden Falcons, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Bryce Tippett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Landen Porfidio and Aidan Weatherhead did most of the damage at the plate: Porfidio went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Weatherhead went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That home run was Porfidio's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Dravin Whitehead, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Winchester Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tri only posted an OBP of .370.
Muncie Burris couldn't beat Eastern Hancock on Wednesday even though they stacked eight runs on them in the third inning. The Owls lost 21-11 to the Royals. Even if the Owls couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Solomon Muliiira stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Muncie Burris is 3-1 when Muliiira posts two or more runs, but 5-11 otherwise. John Hershberger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Winchester Community's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Muncie Burris, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.
Muncie Burris' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Winchester Community hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Muncie Burris, though, as they've only averaged .226. Will they be able to contain Winchester Community's hitters?
Everything went Winchester Community's way against Muncie Burris in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Winchester Community made off with a 15-1 victory. Will the Golden Falcons repeat their success, or do the Owls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
