Newbury Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Westlake and Thousand Oaks have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Warriors walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Lancers.
Presley Watters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Westlake got a big performance out of Kaia Tan, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Palmer, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Westlake's record now sits at 9-6. As for Newbury Park, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Newbury Park hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Westlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Newbury Park couldn't quite get it done against Westlake in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
