The Hammonton Blue Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 74-54 defeat at the hands of Middle Township. While losing is never fun, Hammonton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Middle Township is ranked 11th).
Middle Township was led to victory by Anthony Trombetta and Jamir McNeil. Trombetta scored 16 points along with five assists, while McNeil scored 18 points along with five assists and five steals. The game was McNeil's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Re'Ale Basquine was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Hammonton's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Middle Township, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hammonton will face off against Cedar Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cedar Creek is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Middle Township is on the road again on Saturday and play against Rancocas Valley at 7:30 p.m. on December 30th. Rancocas Valley is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
