Slinger is 8-2 against West Bend East since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Owls will head out on the road to challenge the Suns at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Slinger has three straight wins, West Bend East has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Slinger got the win against Cedarburg by a conclusive 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Owls, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Nathan Miller tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Payton Tennies and Jesse Retzlaff did most of the damage at the plate: Tennies went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Retzlaff went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Tennies has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mason Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Slinger hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cedarburg struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, West Bend East didn't have quite enough to beat Ripon on Saturday and fell 4-3.
Mason Sommer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Sommer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Davis Rowley was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of West Bend East's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 1-13 when he doesn't).
Slinger's record now sits at 12-2. As for West Bend East, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.
Slinger's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Owls have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for West Bend East, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Slinger continue to outrun the ball?
Slinger was able to grind out a solid victory over West Bend East in their previous meeting back in April, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
