Basketball Game Preview: Gonzales Apaches vs. Schulenburg Shorthorns

The Gonzales Apaches will take on the Schulenburg Shorthorns at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Gonzales easily dispatched Randolph on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Apaches fell just short of Poth by a score of 56-53 on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Gonzales saw an underclassman step up: freshman Amaris Johnson dropped a double-double with 27 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Lester, who posted 12 points along with seven assists and four steals.

Meanwhile, Schulenburg put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Brazos 80-19. The Shorthorns' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Gonzales' defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Schulenburg, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.

Gonzales barely slipped by Schulenburg in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, winning 33-32. Will the Apaches repeat their success, or do the Shorthorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
