The Sandhills Valley Mavericks's three-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They walked away with a 58-49 win over Maxwell. This was payback for Sandhills Valley, who suffered a 47-43 loss the last time these two teams met.
It was another big night for Leyton Connell, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cooper Layher, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Maxwell lost, one person who can't be blamed is Levi Huffman. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Huffman scored 15 or more points. Max Robinson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Maxwell were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The win got Sandhills Valley back to even at 6-6. As for Maxwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
Sandhills Valley will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hyannis on January 30th. As for Maxwell, they will take on Paxton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Paxton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
