Bellevue extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 7-5. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Interlake Saints. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 two weeks ago.
Mia Kelley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Naomi Wu, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Interlake, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
On Interlake's side, Albany Aponte (2027) made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Aponte (2027) has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Martinez (2029), who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Jacky Jimenez (2027) was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Coming up, Bellevue will welcome Highline at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Interlake, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
