The North Salem Vikings fell victim to the South Salem Saxons''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Saxons 54-0. While losing is never fun, North Salem can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while South Salem is ranked fifth).
Athan Palmateer was on fire for South Salem: he threw for 425 yards and three touchdowns while completing 91.4% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. South Salem also got a significant boost from Demelash James, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 87 yards.
Another reason for the win was South Salem's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. North Salem's QB won't forget Divine Ibe anytime soon given Ibe sacked him four times.
North Salem's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.3 points per game. As for South Salem, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
North Salem will head out on the road to face off against Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Salem, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Tigard at 7:00 p.m. Tigard is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
