The Dove Creek Bulldogs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They pulled ahead with a 54-53 photo finish over Monticello. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Dove Creek as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Sheldon Gardner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Buffington, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Dove Creek's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Monticello, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dove Creek will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Nucla at 5:30 p.m. on January 12, 2024. Monticello and San Juan will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. San Juan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Monticello likes a good challenge.
