The Hilltop Cadets will head out on the road to face off against the Blissfield Royals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hilltop will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Blissfield's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Hilltop hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Cadets came out on top against Pettisville by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday.
Kelsy Connolly made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Connolly wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Halle Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Kenley Routt was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Blissfield posted their closest victory since May 3, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Madison 7-6. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Like Hilltop, Blissfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Savannah Stalker. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up six earned runs off seven hits. Stalker was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Hilltop's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12 runs. As for Blissfield, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hilltop has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Blissfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
