The Mauldin Mavericks came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to Hillcrest for the full four quarters, racking up a 90-63 victory on the road. Given Mauldin's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Hillcrest is ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Braden Hershberger was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Nathan Wilbourne was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Mauldin's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Hillcrest, they dropped their record down to 6-18 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mauldin will face off against Woodmont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mauldin has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 437 points over their last six games. As for Hillcrest, they will head out on the road to take on J.L. Mann at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully J.L. Mann focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 last Friday.
