Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2024 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Mark Wiepert of
Wilsonville is the 2024 MaxPreps Oregon High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior quarterback led the Wildcats to an 11-2 record and second straight Class 5A state championship.
Wiepert led the state with 3,811 passing yards
and 51 touchdown passes, becoming the seventh quarterback in state history to throw for 50 or more TDs in a season. He added 704 yards and 12 scores on the ground while also starring on defense with 89 tackles and an interception.

In a 56-35 win over Mountain View (Bend) in the title game, Wiepert completed 17 of 26 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns to go with 18 carries for 169 yards and five more scores, breaking the 11-man OSAA championship game record with eight total touchdowns.
Wiepert made the transition from wide receiver to quarterback this season after leading the team with 72 receptions for 1,465 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior. He also led the team with 121 tackles.
Originally committed to Oregon State to play baseball, Wiepert flipped his commitment to Oregon earlier this week to play football. He earned all-state honors at catcher as a junior.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
