The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Ayden - Grifton Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
After soaring to 62 points the game before, SouthWest Edgecombe were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 71-23 loss at the hands of North Pitt. SouthWest Edgecombe was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-8.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Kd Collins and Zamareya Jones. Jones had a great game and scored 20 points along with seven assists and six steals. Meanwhile, Collins did her best for the losing side, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, SouthWest Edgecombe struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Ayden - Grifton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 13th straight loss. They took a serious blow against North Pitt, falling 74-17. While losing is never fun, Ayden - Grifton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 546th, while North Pitt is ranked 13th).
SouthWest Edgecombe's loss dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Ayden - Grifton, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-20.
Everything came up roses for SouthWest Edgecombe against Ayden - Grifton in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 58-23 victory. With SouthWest Edgecombe ahead 34-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
