The Columbus Cardinals won the last time they faced the Yoakum Bulldogs, and things went their way on Friday too. Columbus had just enough and edged Yoakum out 28-26. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Columbus has scored all season.
Columbus' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karlee Mathis, who scored five points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Anaya Gardner, who scored nine points.
Columbus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Yoakum, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will be home for the holidays to greet Second Baptist at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Yoakum will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hallettsville at 6:15 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
