Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Hammond Academy of Science & Tech challenged Thornridge on Saturday. The Hawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Hawks have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Austin McKimmy and Diego Patino were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, McKimmy tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Patino pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At bat, McKimmy went 2-for-4 with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Patino went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases. McKimmy is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last seven games he's played.
In other batting news, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech got a massive performance out of Noah Michniewicz, who went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Michniewicz has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Boudi Sullivan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Hammond Academy of Science & Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April.
Thornton Fractional North's loss dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech, their record now sits at 9-2.
