Baseball Recap: Valley Comes Up Short

On Saturday, Valley came up short against Headland and fell 8-4. Valley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Matthew McDonald was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mason Yarbrough made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 12 contests. Another player making a difference was Cole House, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-2. As for Headland, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Looking ahead, Valley will square off against Central of Clay County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Headland, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 9-6 victory against Houston Academy on the 8th.
