The Caverna Colonels will head out on the road to square off against the Fort Knox Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Caverna has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 28.
Warren Central hit Caverna with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Colonels fell 8-5 to the Dragons.
Tay Alexander made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jantin Wykoff, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Fort Knox took on Fort Campbell on Saturday. The Eagles took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons.
Eli Ortega put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Ortega was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Angel Santiago was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Fort Knox is 2-1 when Santiago posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-7-1 otherwise. Eli Brisco also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Caverna's record now sits at 1-21. As for Fort Knox, their record is now 4-8-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Caverna has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fort Knox struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
