The Luther Knights waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins but they left with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sparta 96-57 at home. Luther has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 20 points or more this season.
Sparta lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being John Rice, who scored 17 points. Gavin Rhead was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sparta were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. This was only their 13th loss (out of 17 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Luther is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Sparta, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-16.
Luther didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-56 win vs. Cashton on the 10th. Sparta has also already played their next game, a 71-37 loss against Aquinas on the 9th.
