The Green Valley Gators's game on Wednesday was all tied up 12-12 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They lost to Godinez Fundamental at home by a decisive 41-23 margin. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Green Valley came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 77th in Nevada, while Godinez Fundamental is ranked 573rd in California).
Despite the loss, Green Valley had strong showings from Amelia Rawhouser, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds, and Olivia Patai, who scored no points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Godinez Fundamental to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily Jimenez, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Lopez, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Green Valley bumped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.6 points per game. As for Godinez Fundamental, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-6.
Coincidentally, Green Valley and Godinez Fundamental will both be playing Winslow the next time they take the court. Godinez Fundamental will host Winslow at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Green Valley will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
