It was a good run, but the Reed-Custer Comets unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell to Manteno 47-41. Reed-Custer was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Manteno apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Reed-Custer lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kaylee Tribble. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Tribble has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Wollenzien, who scored six points along with two steals.
Manteno was led to victory by Sara Schmidt and Maddie Gesky. Schmidt dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Gesky scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Schmidt is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. Alyssa Singleton was another key contributor, scoring three points along with four steals.
Reed-Custer's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Manteno, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-10.
Reed-Custer won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Herscher at 6:45 p.m. on January 25th. Herscher is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Manteno will take on Grace Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
