Two dominant guards in Luke Terpstra and Shawn Donaldson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The DeMotte Christian Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Whiting Oilers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Whiting took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on DeMotte Christian, who comes in off a win.
DeMotte Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 73-63 victory over Marquette Catholic. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead DeMotte Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tony Bos, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bos has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jayce Bultema, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Whiting pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 78-55 walloping at the hands of Westville. Whiting was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-20.
Despite the defeat, Whiting got a solid performance out of Donaldson, who scored 31 points. That was a full 56.4% of Whiting's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Beau Harbin was another key contributor, scoring three points along with ten rebounds.
DeMotte Christian's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Whiting, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Saturday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: DeMotte Christian have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Whiting struggles in that department as they've made 38% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
DeMotte Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Whiting when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 68-63 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Whiting's Nolan Toth, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for DeMotte Christian to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
