The Effingham Flaming Hearts waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 40-29 victory over Greenville. Given Effingham's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Greenville is ranked 136th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Greenville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Natalie Mccullough, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Effingham is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. As for Greenville, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Effingham will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Mattoon at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. As for Greenville, they will square off against Breese Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Breese Central will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive.
