Arthur County kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 44-36 to the Wallace Wildcats. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.
Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grady Gorwill, who rushed for 78 yards and two scores, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and one TD. Reese Swanson was another key passer, throwing for 149 yards and three touchdowns.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Ashtin Johns and Brayden Gardner. Johns rushed for 189 yards and three scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry while Gardner gained 137 total yards and three touchdowns. Johns really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. Tyson Sullivan also helped out as he racked up 102 rushing yards.
Coming up, Arthur County will face off against Medicine Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wallace, they will take on Creek Valley at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
