Washburn is 9-1 against Hancock County since February of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Washburn Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Hancock County Indians at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Washburn has 14 straight victories, Hancock County has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Washburn stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They claimed a resounding 72-13 victory over White Academy on the road. Washburn's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Washburn's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ebany Hill, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Hill pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Saylor Clay, who scored 18 points along with five steals.
Washburn used a slightly different lineup for their bout with White Academy. And. Taylie Proffitt made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points along with five assists. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Meanwhile, Hancock County suffered a tough 57-35 loss at the hands of Washburn on Friday. While losing is never fun, Hancock County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while Washburn is ranked 164th).
Washburn pushed their record up to 21-4 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Hancock County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-19 record this season.
Everything went Washburn's way against Hancock County in their previous matchup on Friday as Washburn made off with a 57-35 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Washburn since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
