The Grand Oaks Grizzlies will look to defend their home court on Friday against the New Caney Eagles at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grand Oaks has six straight victories, New Caney has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Wednesday, Grand Oaks slipped by Oak Ridge 43-42.
Grand Oaks got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bree Riley out in front who scored 21 points. That makes it 23 consecutive games in which Riley has scored at least a third of Grand Oaks' points. Another player making a difference was Amariah Burns, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, New Caney lost to Conroe at home by a decisive 42-24 margin on Wednesday. New Caney has struggled against Conroe recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Grand Oaks' win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-13. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.9 points per game. As for New Caney, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-20 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Grand Oaks against New Caney when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 47-19 win. Does Grand Oaks have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Caney turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
