The Holbrook Roadrunners entered their tilt with the Payson Longhorns with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Holbrook walked away with a 54-45 victory over the Longhorns on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Holbrook also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Holbrook's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Tapaha led the charge by dropping a triple-double on ten points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. Tapaha is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chase Salabye, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Payson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Echols, who scored six points. Omar Fierro-Nava was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Holbrook's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Payson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holbrook will take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Winslow's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests. As for Payson, they and the Yellow Jackets will face off at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
