4A District 6 recap Sept. 26, 2012
LaBelle was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in 4A District 6. The Cowboys beat Avon Park 14-0 earlier in the week.
LaBelle moved up to 347 from 389 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cowboys climbed the ranks as a result of a 14-0 win over the Red Devils.
Avon Park's dynamic duo of Ryan Dick and Steven Roberts proved tough for LaBelle to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Dick threw for 170 yards and Roberts had 99 yards receiving. Mustafa Majeed helped Avon Park's passing attack out by catching three balls for 30 yards.
Ellis Johnson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 81 yards as the Cowboys fell to the Cowboys. Danny Robinson also contributed to the rushing game with 21 yards on the ground.
The Red Devils' Dick and Roberts have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A District 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Dick has thrown for 466 yards this season, while Roberts, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 19 catches for 329 yards. Johnson from LaBelle leads the league in rushing with 321 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place LaBelle takes on second place Dunbar. Last week, the Cowboys topped Avon Park, while Dunbar beat Lake Placid.
There should be lots of points scored when LaBelle and the Tigers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Cowboys comes in having scored 54 this season, while Dunbar has scored 111. LaBelle scored 14 points last week as it topped the Red Devils.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Cowboys take on Phil Vogt's team. LaBelle has allowed 51 points this season, while the Tigers have given up 67. The Cowboys allowed 0 points last week as they defeated Avon Park.
Dunbar led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on the Dragons.
