The St. Anthony's Friars and the Cardinal Hayes Cardinals squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the St. Anthony's Friars had to settle for second. St. Anthony's was outmatched by Cardinal Hayes at home and fell 42-14. St. Anthony's was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.
When it comes to explaining why St. Anthony's lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gary Merrill. Despite the final result, he rushed for 139 yards. Merrill hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
St. Anthony's has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Cardinal Hayes, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
St. Anthony's does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cardinal Hayes will head out on the road to face off against Archbishop Stepinac at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Archbishop Stepinac is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
