Basketball Recap: Armwood Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Hillsborough last Tuesday, Armwood came back down to earth. The Armwood Hawks came up short against the Sickles Gryphons on Wednesday, falling 58-38.

Armwood lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaliyah Bandy, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Bandy is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaya Richardson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Sickles' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jadyn Watts, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Watts has scored at least a third of Sickles' points. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Sharpe, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight assists and eight steals.

Armwood's defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-2. As for Sickles, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Armwood will take on King at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Armwood is facing King at the right time seeing as King is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Sickles, they will face off against Robinson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Robinson's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Sickles' offense will have their work cut out for them.
