The Maret Frogs will head out on the road to challenge the Flint Hill Huskies at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Maret is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Maret is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Sidwell Friends, who was ranked second at the time (Maret was ranked third). The Frogs lost 14-4 to the Quakers on Thursday. The Frogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Isiah Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Flint Hill entered their tilt with St. Andrew's Episcopal on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 16-1 win. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Jackson Speer looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Aidan Ryan was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. PJ Lyons was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Flint Hill pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Maret, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Maret has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .467. However, it's not like Flint Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
