The Rancho Verde Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Citrus Hill Hawks at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Rancho Verde is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
On Tuesday, Rancho Verde got the win against Lakeside by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Isabelle Sena made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaylen Anderson, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Citrus Hill unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Moreno Valley by a score of 10-9.
Alyssa Lupercio made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Jaylenne Jauregui, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Rancho Verde pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Citrus Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rancho Verde hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Citrus Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rancho Verde beat Citrus Hill 8-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
