The Marcos de Niza Padres's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 70-46 loss at the hands of Seton Catholic. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Marcos de Niza has suffered since December 15, 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Marcos de Niza lost, one person who can't be blamed is James Steward. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 43.5% of Marcos de Niza's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Dj Drew, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Marcos de Niza smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Seton Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julian Garcia, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Garcia has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kj Fauske, who scored 21 points.
Marcos de Niza has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Seton Catholic, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marcos de Niza will take on Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Seton Catholic, they will be playing at home against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Mary's is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
