Baseball Recap: Nate Gallegos Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Compton

Lakewood was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Compton on Thursday. The Lancers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tarbabes a 16-0 shutout. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lancers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Joe Dizon made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lakewood is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Dizon was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Nate Garcia and Aiden DeStouet dominated on the mound. Garcia pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while DeStouet tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Garcia has become a key player for Lakewood: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most three hits, but 5-8 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Nate Gallegos was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Lakewood is undefeated when Gallegos posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Tanner Miramontes also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Lakewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Compton only posted a batting average of .062.

Lakewood's record is now 9-10. As for Compton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9-1 record this season.

Lakewood didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 victory against Santa Fe on the 15th. As for Compton, they have also already played their next match, a 1-0 win against Lennox Academy on the 12th.
