The South Newton Rebels will head out on the road to square off against the DeMotte Christian Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: South Newton has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while DeMotte Christian will arrive with three straight victories.
South Newton fought the good fight in their overtime game against North White last Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to the Vikings. South Newton has struggled against North White recently, as their game last Saturday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, South Newton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Chayse Stillabower, who scored eight points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Colton Marks, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, DeMotte Christian earned a 49-36 win over Wheeler on Saturday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead DeMotte Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tony Bos, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and three steals. Luke Terpstra was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
South Newton's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-10. As for DeMotte Christian, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Things could have been worse for South Newton, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-36 loss to DeMotte Christian when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can South Newton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
