Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Coconut Creek Cougars, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 28-0 loss at the hands of the Raiders on Friday. Coconut Creek's defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Jordan Lyle was his usual excellent self, rushing for 110 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries for St. Thomas Aquinas. Stacey Gauge was another key contributor, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
St. Thomas Aquinas' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB nine times. Trevor Sommers was especially locked on to Coconut Creek's QB and sacked him twice.
Coconut Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3-1. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they have yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 12-1 record.
Coconut Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. St. Thomas Aquinas will look to defend their home field on Friday against Gaither at 7:30 p.m. Gaither will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 71st, while St. Thomas Aquinas is ranked third).
