The Millbrook Pioneers came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Fauquier by a score of 52-45. That's another feather in the cap for Millbrook, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Millbrook's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Michaela Owens led the charge by scoring 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owens has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Valentina Burrill, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Millbrook is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Fauquier, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Millbrook will take on the Judges at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Handley is on a seven-game streak of home wins, the Pioneers a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Fauquier, they will head out on the road to face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Manassas Park comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
