It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Peak to Peak Pumas ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged University out 74-72. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Peak to Peak's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grant Boonstra led the charge by scoring 18 points along with 3 steals. Tysen Burton was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 3 steals.
Despite the loss, University had strong showings from Gage Schminke, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 10 rebounds, and Connor Weber, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. Weber scored a full 33.3% of University's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Villarreal, who scored 5 points along with 4 steals.
Peak to Peak's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Peak to Peak will face off against Silver Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. University's road trip will continue as they head out to face Highland at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Hopefully Highland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
