Basketball Recap: Clairemont Takes a Loss

Clairemont played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 76-54 to the Granite Hills Eagles. The Chieftains were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.

Despite the loss, Clairemont still got an impressive performance from Blake Murphy, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards. Murphy is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Grant Rine, who posted ten points in addition to six assists and six boards.

Even though they lost, Clairemont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 14 consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Granite Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andre Dankha, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists. That's the most assists Dankha has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zedahn Smith, who went 9 of 20 on his way to 23 points along with six assists and five boards.

Clairemont has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Granite Hills, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-8.

Clairemont will face off against Monte Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monte Vista has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Granite Hills, they will challenge Hoover at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Granite Hills' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
