Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Port Washington rose to the challenge on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 24-1 victory. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sam Hoeft made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hoeft was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Port Washington got a massive performance out of Kyle Uselding, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, Uselding posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April. Jackson Bergin was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs.

Port Washington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-15 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Kettle Moraine Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-7.
