Whiting is 2-7 against Wheeler since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Whiting Oilers will head out on the road to square off against the Wheeler Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. Whiting is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses.
Whiting suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Hammond Bishop Noll, falling 81-31. While losing is never fun, Whiting can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while Hammond Bishop Noll is ranked 71st).
Despite the loss, Whiting had strong showings from Nick Davenport, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds, and Yovanni Garro, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Wheeler's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 61-52 to Calumet New Tech. Wheeler has not had much luck with Calumet New Tech recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Whiting's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Wheeler, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Everything went Whiting's way against Wheeler in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as Whiting made off with a 58-37 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Whiting since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
