The Metro Tech Knights and the Sierra Linda Bulldogs will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Metro Tech and 20 for Sierra Linda dating back to last season.
Metro Tech suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against North Canyon, falling 75-30. While losing is never fun, Metro Tech can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while North Canyon is ranked 128th).
Despite the loss, Metro Tech had strong showings from Oswaldo Lopez Vargas, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, and Ace Zambrano, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Lopez Vargas posted two or more blocks.
Metro Tech struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as North Canyon racked up 11 assists.
Meanwhile, Sierra Linda was beaten by North Canyon 86-24 on Friday. Sierra Linda has struggled against North Canyon recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Metro Tech's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-15. As for Sierra Linda, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.
Everything went Metro Tech's way against Sierra Linda when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as Metro Tech made off with a 45-23 win. Does Metro Tech have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sierra Linda turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
