The Hunterdon Central Red Devils pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 68-56 to Phillipsburg. Hunterdon Central lost against Phillipsburg in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 71-46 score last time.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Phillipsburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Scerbo Jr., who scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals. Scerbo Jr. is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ameer Herran, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Hunterdon Central's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-2. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Phillipsburg, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Hunterdon Central will be home for the holidays to greet Bound Brook at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Phillipsburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Warren Hills Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
