The Gaither Cowboys will head out to take on the Strawberry Crest Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gaither is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Gaither came up short against Wiregrass Ranch and fell 10-5.
Kacey Wilkes put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off ten hits. Wilkes was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Riley Russell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, while Strawberry Crest put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Freedom. The Chargers put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 18-0 win. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Like Gaither, Strawberry Crest also got a great game from a two-way player: Destiny Bryant. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bryant has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Lola Coole was a standout: she scored four runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jazlynn Jirau, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Strawberry Crest and bumps their season record up to 6-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games. As for Gaither, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7.
Gaither suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Strawberry Crest in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Cowboys avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
