The Ste. Genevieve Dragons will face off against the Kennett Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Ste. Genevieve took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Murphysboro, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Ste. Genevieve skirted past Murphysboro 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dragons have posted since April 13, 2024.
Meanwhile, Kennett put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Potosi a 15-0 shutout.
Avery Payne made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Tinnin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Handley McAtee was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
Kennett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .613. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Kennett pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. Ste. Genevieve has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Ste. Genevieve came out on top in a nail-biter against Kennett when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will Ste. Genevieve repeat their success, or does Kennett has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
