The Moriah Vikings won the last time they faced the Saranac Lake Red Storm, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Moriah managed a 56-52 win over the Red Storm. Given Moriah's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Red Storm are ranked 429th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Cooper Allen, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Joe Pelkey, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Saranac Lake lost, one person who can't be blamed is Caleb Akey. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. That was a full 38.5% of Saranac Lake's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Melvin Cirikovic, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Moriah pushed their record up to 10-1 with that victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Saranac Lake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
