Despite the loss, Wilson Prep got top-tier performance from Travon Usher, who rushed for 171 yards and two scores while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Usher is now averaging an impressive 103.5 rushing yards per game.
Meanwhile, Mount Zion Christian Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points) and they went ahead and made it three last Friday. They strolled past the Wildcats with points to spare, taking the game 36-17.
Wilson Prep better keep an eye on Sherrad Bennard III. He was instrumental in Mount Zion Christian Academy's win, throwing for 210 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes, while also rushing for 47 yards.
Mount Zion Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Mount Zion Christian Academy's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB eight times. It was truly a group effort as Jahshua Fishe, Zachary Mason, and Lawrence Muldrow Jr picked up two apiece. Muldrow Jr is crushing it when it comes to sacks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the field this season.
Mount Zion Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Wilson Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Wilson Prep has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 267.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mount Zion Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 178.8 rushing yards.
