Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Hawthorne Cougars walked away with it. They skirted past Anaheim 22-20. The win was just what Hawthorne needed coming off of a 49-0 loss in their prior match.
Among those leading the charge was Obie Brown, who threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Zameere Medina, who gained 81 total yards and a touchdown.
Diego Benitez and Jason Garrett certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Benitez rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while Garrett threw for 73 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
Hawthorne's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Anaheim, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Hawthorne will head out on the road to face off against El Monte at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in El Monte's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four games. Anaheim does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
