California is a perfect 10-0 against El Rancho since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The California Condors will head out to challenge the El Rancho Dons at 3:15 p.m. California's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so El Rancho's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
California took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Sunny Hills by a score of 5-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Pricilla Ramirez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Shirley Acevedo and Ava Acosta did most of the damage at the plate: Acevedo went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Acosta went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Acevedo brought in this season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: California lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, El Rancho waltzed into their contest on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Lancers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dons have posted since April 24, 2024.
El Rancho got a massive performance out of Malaya Vargas, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Delilah Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
California pushed their record up to 4-5 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for El Rancho, their record is now 6-3-1.
El Rancho's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. California has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for El Rancho, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will California keep running through batters, or will El Rancho buck the trend?
California came out on top in a nail-biter against El Rancho in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for California since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
