The Shamrock Irish will venture away from home to challenge the Spearman Lynx at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shamrock is looking for their season's first win.
Shamrock is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They fell 41-34 to Sanford-Fritch on Friday.
Despite the loss, Shamrock had strong showings from Cross Stambaugh, who gained 216 total yards and three touchdowns, and Jace Moon, who threw for 443 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt. Stambaugh didn't just play on offense: he also made 15 total tackles and defended one pass.
Even if they lost, Shamrock's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Raymund Saldivar refused to say out of the backfield, picking up three sacks all by himself.
Meanwhile, Spearman was able to grind out a solid victory over Texhoma/Goodwell last Thursday, taking the game 28-21. The win was all the more spectacular given the Lynx's disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 795th in Texas, while Texhoma/Goodwell are ranked 174th in Oklahoma).
Shamrock better keep an eye on Jailen Vasquez. He was instrumental in Spearman's win, rushing for 145 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 57 yards and two TDs. Those 145 rushing yards gave Vasquez a new career-high.
Spearman was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Spearman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Dallen Scroggs was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself.
The victory made it two in a row for Spearman and bumps their season record up to 2-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Shamrock, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Shamrock took a serious blow against Spearman when the teams last played back in September of 2024, falling 56-0. Can the Irish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
